Character Name: Harleen "Harley Quinn" Quinzel
Series: DC Comics
Age: Mid-to-late-20s
From When?: Shortly after punching Poison Ivy out during the Arkham riot; it's an easy situation for Harley to have gotten offed in, to be frank. (Gotham City Sirens #24)

Inmate/Warden: Inmate. Harley has committed some truly awful crimes, and she does need to learn, in general, how to function as part of society again, but her real problem lies in her obsessive nature and tendency towards blind faith. In her life, this has manifested in her relationship with the Joker, who she puts above all others, including herself at times. She needs to learn to recognize when someone cares about her and when someone doesn't, and learn not to make one person her whole world.

Personality:
Harley Quinn can be a spitfire, yes, but what one first notices about her is that she is an obsessive, devoted woman. The object of her affections is the Joker, and 90% of the time at least, she's completely convinced he loves her just as much as she loves him; blind to his true nature not only in their relationship, but in general. You see, Harley is far too sympathetic, and for all the wrong reasons. Seeing darkness in the Joker's childhood, she decides he is literally as innocent as a child, and that he seeks attention, not chaos. In this way, she's a terrible judge of character.

But Harley has a personality beyond her devotion to others, even if that personality came about because of her devotion to others, more or less. She's a ball of bouncy, perky, childish energy with plenty of enthusiasm. She's constantly blowing bubble gum bubbles and making light, sometimes silly comments that don't match the seriousness of situations. She likes a good time and a good laugh, regardless of the cost. However, when she's working with the Joker, she can be darker; cruel and twisted and manipulative, and completely ready to hurt people she is close to if need be.

And, well, that's the thing. Harley's morals are, to put it simply, messed up. She's been around the wrong side of the law in the form of someone she respects and admires, and so she's perfectly okay with doing things that aren't really right -- Especially for others. Sometimes, she brushes of the Joker hurting others as simply jokes. Overall, this is more a case of her sanity being warped than her actual morals; in other words, she sees the harm done as all fun and games. Other times, she seems to understand and accept the wrongness of it all.

Harley is childishly flirtatious, even when she's involved with someone she's totally devoted to. She enjoys kissing men often, usually for little reason, and has a very close relationship with Poison Ivy... Although that's different. It is strongly implied that Ivy loves Harley in one way or another, and Harley... Well, it's hard to say. Ivy's clearly important to her, second only to the Joker, and Harley believes Ivy loves her romantically. However, she only brings this up to use it against Ivy; to crush her. This isn't when she's acting normally, though... This is when she's fighting for the Joker.

Harley can come off as very ditzy, making silly mistakes and missing obvious things. However, "Mad Love" shows that Harley is actually capable of being very smart. She pulls off a plan to destroy Batman that even Batman himself admits is better than anything the Joker has ever come up with.

Though it may seem impossible, Harley is capable of being free from her obsession with the Joker. Usually it's for brief amounts of time, from when he's wronged her to when he apologizes -- often when Harley is ready to kill him for what he did to her. However, at the end of Gotham City Sirens, when Harley hears Catwoman talk about being her own woman, it seems to finally trigger something. Harley proceeds to go off on her own, telling Poison Ivy that she's "ready".

Harley won't be surprised or particularly indignant about being an inmate, though she definitely doubts she can change, and at her canon point, may not want to. As for the Barge in general... Well, Harley's pretty good at not being phased by strange things, to be honest, and will try to take the Barge in stride. She's dealt with many strange and messed up things in her life, so even events shouldn't, generally, leave her completely at a loss or having a meltdown. Also, notably, she'll probably stick to the alias of Harley Quinn on the Barge, but she won't stick to costume as her identity was never really exactly a secret.

Path to Redemption:
As stated above, Harley needs to learn to... Well, essentially, be her own person. But the question is... How?

Well, seeing healthy people leading healthy lives will help. There's not an abundance of this in Gotham... Or on the Barge, granted, but any bit of seeing what people who aren't devoted to a single person get to do will help.

So will making friends! Harley's... Surprisingly good at this for a bad guy. And really, when she's with people who truly care about her, she tends to be at her best. Not only do they show her what caring is really like, but they remind her that she is capable of thinking of the needs of people besides the Joker.

It might seem a tad ironic, but Harley could really use 'therapy', in whatever form she can get it. From talking to people in order to work out her problems, to using the art therapy room to get out and recognize her deeper feelings, it would all be greatly beneficial.

History: Here

Sample Journal Entry:
Hey, am I the only one here who's bored out of her mind? Nothing's been going on lately, and I'm not saying I want to have a brush with death or anything, but come on! Something's gotta happen! Even a repeat of that time that one guy went crazy painting the wall of the art therapy room would be fun right now!

I don't want to bring down anyone's mood by complaining, I really don't. I just get restless, you know?

Sample RP: Harley had never been crazy about plants. She didn't dislike them, and flowers were nice, of course... But other than that, she'd tended not to notice them. They were just there, right? They didn't bug anyone by being there, so they were hardly a problem. And if you happened to pick a flower or break a branch while walking by a tree... No harm done. Wasn't that the case? That was how Harley had felt for a good portion of her life, anyway, so she assumed it was how most people felt. Which might have been foolish, really; Harley was hardly normal.

It didn't matter, though, because all of her preconceived notions about plants had changed when she met Ivy. Red. Her friend, who hated her just then. Someone else would probably have a 'black and white' view of the situation; either they were wrong or their friend was. But... Harley wondered if maybe Red just didn't understand. And was that good or bad, that Ivy didn't have someone in her life she'd do anything for? Harley really wasn't sure anymore.

All of these confusing thoughts rooted in Red's reaction to seeing her were what had lead Harley to the greenhouse. She'd be gentle and good to the plants; maybe it'd be a nice place to think. Or not think. Harley was leaning a bit more towards not thinking, because all of this was making her head spin. So she just... Focused on breathing as she walked, and then on opening the greenhouse door, and finally on looking around at the roses and little trees and such. They really were pretty.

Harley hoped they made good company, too. For Red's sake.
